The organ of the Old Salvius Church carries a story of survival, passion and craftsmanship. In the turbulent days of 1803, Father Page succeeded in acquiring this remarkable instrument from the Dominican convent Agnetenberg in Sittard, which had been closed by the French. The instrument, built around 1700 by the renowned German organ builders Brammerts or Schiffers, found a new and serene home in Limbricht thanks to the Maastricht organ builder Binvignat. After the church closed in 1923, this heritage was in danger of being lost; the organ fell into disrepair and many essential parts disappeared into the mists of time. With sincere pride and the utmost precision, the Verschueren firm restored and reconstructed the organ in all its glory.
Today, our organ stands as a symbol of the perfect symbiosis between history and technology. Its reconstruction has earned worldwide admiration among organ specialists and musicians. When the keys are touched, the space fills with a tone colour that is both powerful and intimate, a tribute to the masters of times past. We invite you to take a seat during our concerts or open days and allow yourself to be moved by the timeless harmony of this unique monumental instrument.
